IND vs PAK: Yuvraj Singh Hopes Shubman Gill To Be Fit For India-Pakistan Match, Says 'Maine Tagda Kar Diya Hai'

Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh is hopeful that Shubman Gill will be fit to play in the India-Pakistan match in the ICC World Cup 2023. Yuvraj Singh mentioned that he motivated Shubman Gill by sharing his own experience of battling cancer during the 2011 World Cup.

Shubman Gill missed the first two matches due to dengue fever. He didn’t travel with the team for the second match as he was hospitalized in Chennai. He arrived in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, but there is no confirmation about his participation in the next game.

I Have Strengthened Shubman Gill – Yuvraj Singh

In a conversation with ANI, Yuvraj Singh wished Shubman Gill a swift recovery, emphasizing the challenges of playing cricket with a fever and dengue.

“Shubham Gill ko maine tagda kar diya hai [I have strengthened Shubham Gill]. I told him that I had played in the World Cup while battling cancer, so I got ready quickly to join the team,” Yuvraj Singh told ANI.

“Hopefully, he will be ready for the India vs Pakistan game. When you have a fever and dengue, it is really tough to play a cricket match, and I have experienced that. So I hope that if he is fit, then he will definitely play.”

Shubman Gill has resumed his batting practice in the nets as he aims to return to the Indian side after recovering from illness. He spent an hour batting in the nets yesterday, taking the first step to regain fitness for the upcoming match.

There Are More Matches After This – Yuvraj Singh

Reflecting on the upcoming India-Pakistan match, Yuvraj Singh encouraged everyone to savour the unique occasion. He expressed confidence about India winning the title, especially after their victories in the first two games.

“This time will not come back, so enjoy it. Not just this match, there are more matches after this. Hopefully, it will be a good match,” Yuvraj further stated.

“India is already confident because they have beaten Australia and Afghanistan. It was a brilliant hundred from Rohit Sharma. I think at the moment both teams are high on confidence, and it should be a cracker of a game. Mohammad Rizwan is in great form. Both teams have outstanding games. Especially for Pakistan, they chased 300-plus runs against Sri Lanka, so it will give them a lot of confidence.”

The highly anticipated match between the two neighbouring nations will be played at the world’s biggest stadium, Narendra Modi Stadium, in Ahmedabad on Saturday, October 14.
