Former Indian skipper Aakash Chopra praised KL Rahul for his resilient century in the ongoing Boxing Day Test against South Africa. However, Aakash Chopra mentioned that the recognition of KL Rahul’s century depends on broadcasters and social media influencers.

India posted a total of 245 runs in their first innings in the challenging conditions at SuperSport Park in Centurion. KL Rahul delivered a standout performance despite the dominance of South African pacers, significantly contributing to the team’s reach of a respectable score.

Rahul scored 101 runs off 137 deliveries, including 14 boundaries and four sixes. The batter became the second Indian batter, after Virat Kohli, to secure two Test centuries in South Africa. He also became the first visiting batter to score twin hundreds in Centurion.

Full Of Authority And Klaaas – Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to express his opinion on KL Rahul’s century, suggesting that its recognition as one of the best Test innings by an Indian relies on the level of promotion it receives from broadcasters and social media platforms.

“Batting at 6. Scoring a century out of the team total of 245. Full of authority and Klaaas. Rahul, take a bow,” Chopra wrote.

“That depends on how much this knock is played up by the broadcasters and the media/SM warriors,” he added.

The Proteas concluded the second day’s play at 256/5, taking an 11-run lead. Dean Elgar reached his 14th Test century, scoring an unbeaten 140 runs off 211 balls. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj each secured two wickets, while Prasidh Krishna added one scalp.

It Was A Very Special Knock – Aakash Chopra

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra emphasized that the determination and context of the innings make it a special knock. He highlighted the uniqueness of the innings where Rahul batted at No. 6 and collaborated with the tail.

“KL Rahul scored a century. Just remember, somebody batting at No. 6 as a keeper when the top order was dismissed early and then you have to bat with the tail and the tail doesn’t contribute much, and despite that, you score a hundred. The team’s total was 245 and KL Rahul scored a century in that,” Chopra said.

“It was a very special knock. Someone asked me on X whether this will go down as one of the best knocks by an Indian player. I said the broadcaster, media and social media will decide that because whichever thing is played up more becomes very important these days, and I think that is what is going to happen,” he added. The visiting team will be hoping to dismiss the remaining wickets on the third day to restrict the opposition while conceding a minimal lead. Skipper Temba Bavuma is uncertain to bat in South Africa’s first innings. Elgar and Marco Jansen (3) remained unbeaten at the crease.
