Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer’s flop show with the bat continued during the South Africa Test series as he was dismissed for a duck in the second Test. Iyer scored 31 runs during the first innings of the Centurion Test match and also failed to leave any impact during the second innings. Iyer has been one of the top players of the Indian team in international cricket for a while and has been handed over the job of batting at number 5.
Shreyas Iyer came into bat after the departure of Shubman Gill, who had looked good and played some solid shots. However, he had to walk back for 36 runs. It was Nandre Burger again, who has been the star of the Proteas’ bowling performance and made Iyer his third victim in the second Test ahead of Tea on Day 1.
Nandre Burger bowled a hard length which went on to take the edge of Shreyas Iyer’s bat as he tried to play the ball on his backfoot.
Shreyas Iyer scored a ton on his Test debut against New Zealand, but has not been able to match the expectations of the selectors and has only hit 703 runs from 12 Test matches. Iyer came to the Indian Test team by replacing out-of-form Ajinkya Rahane, however, if he continues to perform the same way then the selectors might look to bring back Rahane to the Test side.
On the other hand, the Indian team are in a dominant position in the second Test and wrapped up the Proteas for 55 runs in the first innings. Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj was the culprit behind South Africa’s nightmare batting performance and ended the innings with figures of 6/15 in nine overs. Mukesh Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah picked up two wickets a piece.
Team India started off in grand fashion in the first innings and skipper Rohit Sharma hit 13 runs from the first over of Lungi Ngidi. But, Yashasvi Jaiswal was cleaned up for a duck by Kagiso Rabada whereas, Rohit got out after a quickfire knock of 39 runs.

Now few Shreyas Iyer fans are attempting to rescue his duck inning by highlighting World Cup stats.
Come on, this is Test cricket, not an ODIs. pic.twitter.com/UTK7rNxiMa

How ambitious someone must have been to shut the door on Ajinkya Rahane for Shreyas Iyer, who looks vulnerable in SENA countries! Hopefully, he improves with time. #INDvsSA
