When the Indian team was walking back to the dressing room yesterday at the SuperSport Park Stadium after the umpires called for stumps due to poor lighting, Rohit Sharma and his side entered the dressing room with clear dejection and disappointment in their face, something that Sanjay Bangar said happened due to India’s inexperienced Bowling attack.

The Indian bowling attack was put to test by a resilient South African batting line-up led by Dean Elgar who is playing his final Test match at Centurion’s SuperSport Park Stadium. After losing Aiden Markram early on in the 4th over, the Proteas gained total control of the game as Number 3 Tony De Zorzi stood for a 2nd wicket partnership of 93 runs before Jasprit Bumrah’s away-going ball took the left-hander’s edge-and went straight to Yashasvi Jaiswal in the 3rd slip.

Just 9 runs later, Keegan Peterson was clean bowled by Bumrah and it started to feel as if the Indian comeback had begun. However, number 4 batter David Bedingham who was playing his debut Test match took charge and started thrashing India’s bowlers.

It did not look like Bedingham was making his debut for South Africa as his technique and patience frustrated the opposition like anything with Rohit Sharma having no clue whatsoever. The 29-year-old scored a well-deserved half-century on his debut with one his best shots of the day being the cover drive off backfoot.

He would help Dean Elgar in reducing India’s lead by stitching a partnership of 131 runs. Just when it looked like Bedingham would settle down only after a Century, Mohammad Siraj broke the deadlock by finding a gap between his bat and pad to knock the stumps all over with South Africa trailing by just a run at that moment.

Wicket-Keeper Batsman Kyle Verreynne could not maintain the flow as Prasidh Krishna earned his first Test wicket in the 62nd over, moments before the hosts took the lead by 11 runs and the umpires called it a Day. The main issue that neither of the Indian bowlers could address was Dean Elgar who scored his 14th Test Ton, ending Day 2 on 140 runs off 211 balls including 23 Fours.

Sanjay Bangar Opines On India’s Poor Outing With The Ball, Claiming They Will Be Very Disappointed

Sanjay Bangar claimed that he was surprised to see the quality Indian bowling line-up looking ordinary in front of South African batters and highlighted that leaking 5 runs per over since the 2nd session was an alarming sign for the team.

Sanjay Bangar also felt that Indian bowlers somehow had let the efforts of their Batters down as 245 should have been a good enough 1st inning score to challenge South Africa but it turned out to be a walk in the park for them.

“In the second session when they leaked runs and had an average of five runs an over, was surprising for the quality of bowling attack that India possesses. The inexperience came to the fore as the plan was to probabaly pitch the ball slightly up but the swing wasn’t really there. And that meant a lot of deliveries were driven by Elgar and De Zorzi, and later on the same trend continued.” – Sanjay Bangar said.

Overall I feel that the Indian team would be disappointed with how they bowled because they put runs on board. 245, by any stretch of the imagination , was going to be a tough score to get close to but South Africa have in fact surpassed it.” – Sanjay Bangar concluded.
