IND Vs SA: Shubman Gill Makes A Shocking Claim After Sri Lanka Drubbing
Shubman Gill’s return to the Indian cricket team during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 has been remarkable, considering his recent battle with dengue. However, the talented young cricketer has revealed that he is not yet fully fit, having lost four kilograms due to the illness.
Shubman Gill had to miss the first two matches of the ongoing World Cup due to his bout with dengue but made a strong comeback in the highly anticipated clash against Pakistan in Ahmedabad. He has now been a part of the team for five consecutive matches, steadily regaining his batting form.
When questioned about his health following India’s convincing victory over Sri Lanka in Mumbai, Gill candidly admitted, “I am not at full fitness. I have lost four kilograms in terms of body mass and muscle weight due to dengue.” This revelation highlights the physical toll of his recent illness.
Shubman Gill Scores A Brilliant 92 Against Sri Lanka
In terms of his on-field performance, Shubman Gill made 16 runs against Pakistan before impressively achieving a half-century against Bangladesh. He followed these innings with scores of 26 and 9 before delivering a confident knock of 92 against Sri Lanka, contributing to India’s total of 357/8 at the Wankhede Stadium.
Speaking about the match against Sri Lanka, Shubman Gill shared his perspective on the pitch conditions, stating, “I honestly don’t think it was a 400-wicket. We batted well to get 350. Shreyas (Iyer) was the key today. He batted superbly.” Virat Kohli’s 88 runs and Iyer’s explosive 83 off 56 balls provided a late push to the Indian innings.
India’s pacers showcased their dominance yet again, with Jasprit Bumrah making an impact with the very first delivery to dismiss Pathum Nissanka for a golden duck. Mohammed Siraj followed suit by taking a wicket with his first delivery as well, and Mohammed Shami’s exceptional five-wicket haul sealed the win.
Shubman Gill praised the Indian bowlers, remarking, “The way they were bowling, we were anticipating wickets. Siraj is always fired up. They were sensational.”
With this victory, India became the first team to secure a spot in the semi-finals of the competition. Their next goal is to finish the round-robin stage at the top of the table. The team will resume action after a two-day break when they face South Africa at Kolkata’s iconic Eden Gardens, continuing their quest for World Cup glory.
