Jasprit Bumrah finished things off for the South African team in its first innings as the Proteas were wrapped up for 408 runs. Nandre Burger was the last South African batsman to fall for a duck and was cleaned by a brilliant yorker from Jasprit Bumrah.

The wicket came on the fourth ball of the 109th over when Jasprit Bumrah bowled a ball right into the block hole and Nandre Burger had no clue about it. Bumrah finished the innings with a four-wicket haul as skipper Temba Bavuma didn’t come out to bat.

South Africa end first innings at 408 runs

South Africa currently lead by 163 runs in their first innings against India and now the hosts will have to put up a special batting display if they want to give themselves a chance to win the match.

The first innings belonged to South African opener Dean Elgar as he slammed his 14th Test hundred. This is the last time Elgar will be representing South Africa in a Test series. Elgar has been one of the most underrated players and has taken his team to many famous wins.

Apart from Elgar, Marco Jansen remains the standout performer of the South African innings as he was unbeaten on 84 runs. Jansen hit a total of 11 fours and one six in his whole innings. David Bedingham also played some brilliant shots and scored 56 runs from 87 balls. Bedingham hit a total of seven fours and two sixes throughout his knock.

Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah was the standout performer from the Indian side and ended the South African first innings with figures of 4/69 in 26.4 overs. Mohammed Siraj picked up 2 wickets whereas Prasidh Krishna, Shardul Thakur, and Ravichandran Ashwin picked up one wicket a piece.

India pacers Shardul Thakur and Prasidh Krishna were the weak links of the Indian pace attack during the first innings and gave close to five runs an over. Both the bowlers bowled a lot of loose balls to the Proteas batsmen and they made the batting very easy for South Africa.

The Indian batsmen also shall learn a lot from South Africa as they played their best game throughout the innings whereas the Indian batters got out playing defensive shots. Apart from KL Rahul and Virat Kohli no other Indian batsman was able to impress in the match.

With the Indian team having a huge lead to cover in front of them, the visitors need to put up a strong batting display from the first innings and set up a massive target for the Proteas in the second innings.

It is a matter of one strong partnership that can put the South African team back and also open a way for India to win the match.

India had defeated South Africa when they played them in Centurion last time and now can once again repeat the performance in 2023.
