Indian captain Rohit Sharma failed again to score during the second innings of the first IND vs SA Test match. Rohit was castled for a duck by South African pacer Kagiso Rabada. South Africa ended their first innings at 408 runs and are leading by 163 runs.

The Indian team needed something special from the Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, however, Kagiso Rabada proved to be too much for Rohit as he was not able to pick the length of the ball and his furniture was disturbed by an absolute beauty from Rabada.

The Indian team had just five runs on the board and Rohit’s departure might now make things more difficult for the other Indian batsmen.

The Indian team was not able to overcome Rohit Sharma’s wicket as the other opener Yashasvi Jaiswal fell to Nandre Burger for 5 runs. The Indian team now has a daunting task in front of their hand as firstly they need to build their innings and then overcome the huge lead set by the South African batsmen.

Before this, South Africa’s first innings was wrapped up for 408 runs wherein opener Dean Elgar emerged as the top run scorer and played a knock of 185 runs. Apart from Elgar, Marco Jansen was unbeaten on 84 runs whereas David Bedingham played an innings of 56 runs.

Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah finished the innings with a four-wicket haul and gave away 69 runs in 26.4 overs. Mohammed Siraj picked up a two-fer whereas Prasidh Krishna, Shardul Thakur, and Ravichandran Ashwin had to settle for 1 wicket each.

Prasidh Krishna was the weakest link in the Indian bowling performance as he was able to leave no impact on his debut. Krishna who was brought in to fill the shoes of Mohammed Shami didn’t perform up to the mark and gave away runs close to 5 runs an over.

The South African batsmen also displayed a different batting performance and played a lot of attacking shots throughout their innings and didn’t allow the Indian bowlers to build any pressure.

The Indian team batsmen played a lot of defensive shots during its first innings which was the major reason behind their flop batting display. It was KL Rahul who showed the right way to bat on the Centurion pitch and now the Indian team shall bat with the same intent in the second innings.

The Indian team has never won a Test series in South Africa and has been touring the country for the past 31 years. The team has displayed good performance on the previous few tours but has been able to win just 2 games from six games.

Now, when the Indian team has one of the best bowling attacks in the world they also have a chance to win their first Test series on the South African lands in front of an inexperienced South African team. The Indian team has already won the ODI series by 2-1 whereas the T20I series ended at 1-1.
