Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir offered a candid response regarding Virat Kohli’s 50th ODI century. Gautam Gambhir clarified that any competition with Virat Kohli was limited to the cricket field, and the video has gained attention and appreciation on social media.
Gambhir and Kohli, known for their on-field rivalry, had a history of tussles, including a notable IPL incident in the recent season. They engaged in a verbal spat during IPL 2023 when the Lucknow Super Giants, mentored by Gambhir, faced Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Kohli engaged in a war of words with Naveen-ul-Haq, leading to a heated exchange after the match. Gambhir came in support of Naveen, escalating the situation into intense drama. This recent incident added to their history, with a similar verbal spat during the IPL 2013.

In a conversation with Star Sports, Gautam Gambhir was asked against which bowler Kohli completed his 50th ODI century in the 2023 World Cup. Gambhir suggested showing the clip repeatedly, emphasizing that his rivalry with Kohli is confined to the cricket field.
“Against which bowler did Kohli bring up his record-breaking 50th ODI hundred during the 2023 World Cup match against New Zealand?” the host asked.
“Lockie Ferguson. Ye aap baar baar dikhana, mujhe sab kuch yaad rehta hai. Ladai meri sirf on the field hai (Please show this clip again and again, I remember everything. My fight is only on the field),” Gambhir told Star Sports.

Kohli achieved his 50th ODI century during the 2023 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand, scoring 117 off 113 balls. The Rohit Sharma-led team posted 397/4 and secured a place in the final by restricting New Zealand to 327. The 35-year-old also scored a half-century in the final against Australia, but India lost the summit clash by six wickets in Ahmedabad.
Want Virat Kohli To Bat With The Same Intent He Is Known For – Gautam Gambhir
Gautam Gambhir emphasized that Kohli should maintain his usual aggressive approach in the upcoming Test series in South Africa. He highlighted the inexperience of Shreyas Iyer and the potential introduction of KL Rahul as a new wicketkeeper in Test cricket.
“It will be in Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s minds that Shreyas Iyer, who is on his first tour, will be batting after Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul, if he plays, will be playing as a wicketkeeper for the first time. However, I want Virat Kohli to bat with the same intent he is known for,” Gambhir said.
Kohli has reportedly left the tour of South Africa due to a family emergency, and he is anticipated to return before the first Test match. Young opener Ruturaj Gaikwad has been ruled out of the red ball series due to a finger injury sustained during the second ODI match.
The Rohit Sharma-led team are set to face South Africa in a two-match series, with the first Test starting at SuperSport Park in Centurion on December 26. The second Test is scheduled to commence at Newlands in Cape Town on January 3. The touring side aims to secure its first Test series victory in the Rainbow Nation.
