Wasting yet another chance, Indian wicket-keeper batsman Sanju Samson was once again dismissed cheaply during the second SA vs IND ODI match. Samson had to walk back for 12 runs off 23 balls and was cleaned up by South African pacer Beuran Hendricks.
Sanju Samson‘s dismissal took place during the sixth ball of the 32nd over when South African pacer Beuran Hendricks bowled a length ball that angled away from Samson. While trying to steer it towards the third-man region, the ball took Samson’s bat’s edge and went on to hit the stumps.
The Indian team is already 1-0 up in the three-match series against the Proteas after their dominant eight-wicket win in the first match played in Johannesburg. The ‘Men in Blue’ were sent into bat in Gqeberha and they lost their first four wickets for just 136 runs. Now, all the onus is on skipper KL Rahul, if the team wants to reach a decent first innings score.

Ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup, there had been a lot of bashing by the Indian cricket team fans of the BCCI for neglecting Sanju Samson in the big ICC event. However, Samson’s performance in the second SA vs IND ODI match was a reality check for all the fans.
If we head to India’s South African tour summary till now, the three-match T20I series leveled at 1-1 wherein the first match was washed whereas, South Africa emerged victorious in the second match while the Indian team was able to square the contest in the third match.
The Indian team will play a two-match Test series after the third ODI on December 21 and will want to add some necessary points to the WTC 2023-25 points table.
Sanju Samson was included as a backup player in the Indian team for the 2023 Asia Cup, however, once KL Rahul returned he was sent back. Samson was also reported to have achieved a county contract but things didn’t go his way as he was named as a backup player in the Asia Cup 2023 squad.
Team India aims to end ICC title drought
The ‘Men in Blue’ are playing the first ODI series after their debacle with Australia in the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup. The series doesn’t include the likes of skipper Rohit Sharma and CWC 2023 Player of the Tournament, Virat Kohli.
The Indian team played some ruthless cricket throughout the 2023 ODI World Cup and was dominant in the whole tournament. The ‘Men in Blue’ won their first ten out of ten matches, but it was just one bad day for the Rohit Sharma-led side and they fell just one win short of leveling Australia’s massive World Cup record and lost the final.
The Indian team now is preparing for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup and is aiming to end their ICC title drought in the West Indies and the USA. The ‘Men in Blue’ last won an ICC trophy in the year 2013 and since then has lost ICC knockout matches in the last ten years.
