Shreyas Iyer cleaned up by Marco Jansen

Shreyas Iyer didn’t look comfortable in the second innings of the ongoing second Test against South Africa. The match between the teams is taking place at the Supersport Park in Centurion.

India is fighting hard in the second innings in  South Africa. Things aren’t looking great for them as Proteas pacer is keeping the intensity high. They picked three wickets in no time and it was expected that Shreyas Iyer, who had a decent outing in the first innings, would play well in the second essay.

Shreyas Iyer looked scratchy right from the start of the innings and was beaten quite a few times in the short stay on the crease. His wicket looked on cards but it wasn’t expected that it would come this early.

Marco Jansen bowled a full delivery that came in with the angle. Shreyas Iyer played for a straighter line and got an inside edge. The ball went onto the boots and pegged back to hit off pole.

Here’s the video:

Shreyas Iyer scored just 6 runs off 12 balls and managed just one four his innings. The batter had a decent outing in the first innings as he added 31 runs and bailed the team out of trouble when they lost three early wickets.

A similar was expected of him this time around. He needed to stay there and provide support to Virat Kohli. The senior batter is single-handedly keeping India in the game but isn’t getting the support from the other end.

IND vs SA: After Shreyas Iyer, India loses KL Rahul as well

India are in deep trouble in the game. After Shreyas Iyer was dismissed, KL Rahul joined hands with Virat Kohli. The keeper-batter looked good but he too lost his wicket and the hosts came under immense pressure.

KL Rahul perished to Nandre Burger. The fast bowler bowled a full outside off which moved away a tad. The batter went for a big drive and the ball caught the outside edge, which was caught by Aiden Markram in slips. The keeper-batter perished for just 4 runs off 24 balls.

After his wicket, India lost Ravichandran Ashwin on the very next ball. If this was not enough, Shardul Thakur too got out and India were reeling at 105/7. Jasprit Bumrah too was run out and the Proteas are just two wickets away from winning the game. The onus is now on Virat Kohli to take his team close to South Africa’s total and maybe get a lead.

Virat Kohli has batted magnificently well so far in the second innings. He has looked the most settled Indian batter in the innings. The right-hander has played some crisp shots in the innings and brought up his half-century.

South Africa would be eager to take his wicket and if they manage to take his wicket, it would mean that Proteas are likely to win. They are bowling in with full pace and intensity and it seems that every ball will be a wicket-taking delivery.
