Dean Elgar played a knock of 185 runs in the first Test between both teams and was the Player of the Match in Centurion. Elgar’s knock helped South Africa put up 408 runs in the first innings of the first Test, which also put them in a commanding position to win the match. India faced an innings and 32-run defeat after being wrapped up for 131 runs in the second innings of the first Test.

Dean Elgar has played a total of 86 Test matches for South Africa and has hit 5347 runs at an average of 37.92. Elgar also slammed 14 centuries followed by 23 half-centuries. His highest Test career score of 199 runs.

Dean Elgar is one of the most underrated South African batsmen and is not given more importance than he deserves. Elgar has a huge importance in shaping South African cricket just like AB de Villiers, Jacques Kallis, and Dale Steyn.

Getting back to the second Test match, the Indian team were bundled for 153 runs in reply to South Africa’s first innings score of 55 runs. Indian batsman Virat Kohli was the highest run scorer of their innings and scored 48 runs. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill also scored 39 and 36 runs respectively whereas no other Indian batsman was able to cross single digits.

Winning the toss and batting first turned out to be a nightmare for South Africa as they were restricted to a mere 55 runs in their first innings. Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj was the culprit behind South Africa’s destruction and ended the innings with figures of 6/15 in nine overs. Jasprit Bumrah and Mukesh Kumar picked up 2 wickets a piece.

Team India have never won a Test match at the Sahara Park Newlands and have been playing at the ground since 1993. India have played a total of six Tests at the venue wherein two have resulted in draws whereas the rest four have been lost by the Indian team.

The Indian team have the best chance to put the Proteas on the backfoot in their second innings and win the match to level the series 1-1. They will also end the South African tour with a win.

The Indian team will face Afghanistan in a three-match T20I series whereas England will be waiting up for them in India in a five-match Test series starting from January 25, 2024.
