Dean Elgar had a brilliant IND vs SA series as he scored a memorable ton in the first match at the SuperSport Park in Centurion. Elgar scored 185 runs in the first Test and was the Player of the Match in South Africa’s an innings and 32-run win.
Getting back to the 2nd Test match, the Cape Town Test got over in just 1.5 days as the Indian team were able to defeat South Africa for the first time at the Sahara Park Newlands. It was an all bowlers match in Cape Town as none of the batsmen excluding South Africa’s Aiden Markram and India’s Virat Kohli was able to show some fight at the surface.
Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah removed six batsmen in South Africa’s second innings and wrote the script of India’s win in Cape Town. However, Aiden Markram scored a smashing hundred and played an innings of 106 runs from 103 balls. This was also the sixth-fastest hundred by a South African in Test cricket.
Batting first in Cape Town proved to be the worst decision for South Africa as they were blown away for a mere score of 55 runs in their first innings. Mohammed Siraj was the architect of India’s fabulous bowling performance and ended the innings with a six-wicket haul.
India also were not able to display a fine batting performance and they were bundled for 153 runs. Indian batsman Virat Kohli was the highest run scorer in India’s first innings whereas Rohit Sharma scored 39 runs. South African pacers Lungi Ngidi, Marco Jansen, and Nandre Burger picked up three wickets each.
The Indian team led by 98 runs in the first innings, and the Proteas finished Day 1 at 63/3 in their second innings and were 36 runs behind India’s first-innings lead. However, Jasprit Bumrah broke the backbone of South Africa’s batting lineup and picked up six wickets.
Indian batters came up with an aggressive approach to chase down 79 runs and at last, they were able to win the contest by 7 wickets and level the series 1-1.
India will now face Afghanistan in a three-match T20I series when they reach home from January 11. However, right after the conclusion of the T20I series, the Indian team are all set to take on England in a five-match Test series.
England will be led by Ben Stokes whereas Brendon McCullum will be for the first time in India as England’s head coach.
