Gautam Gambhir has heaped praise on Virat Kohli for scoring a century against Pakistan in the Super 4 game of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 and completing 13000 runs.

The former India skipper starred with the bat as India thrashed Pakistan by a record margin of 228 runs on Monday (September 11). Openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill laid the foundation for a big total by scoring fifties. Kohli and KL Rahul then fully capitalized on the solid start as they scored unbeaten centuries and shared a record stand of 233 runs for the third wicket.

Kohli remained unbeaten on 122 off just 94 balls while Rahul scored 111 as India piled up 356 for 2. In reply, Pakistan were all out for just 128. During the course of his impressive knock, Kohli shattered a number of records. One of the most notable records was the fastest to 13000 ODI runs.

Virat Kohli became just the fifth cricketer in the history of the ODIs to reach the 13000-run mark and did it at an astonishing speed. The Indian superstar has achieved the feat in more than fifty innings quicker than second-placed Sachin Tendulkar. Virat Kohli got to the milestone in 267 innings, while Tendulkar took 321 innings to reach the milestone.

Gautam Gambhir praises Virat Kohli:

Speaking after the game ended, Gautam Gambhir was all praise for Virat Kohli and said that the batter deserves all the praise for completing 13000 runs in ODIs. He also pointed out the speed with which Virat Kohli achieved the milestone.

“Virat Kohli has completed 13,000 runs, which is a massive milestone. There are very few cricketers who have scored 13,000 runs in ODIs. The speed at which he has achieved this feat is praiseworthy,” Gautam Gambhir told Star Sports.

The former batsman was also asked whether Virat Kohli made any adjustment to his batting for the match after failing with the bat in the group stage clash against Pakistan earlier in the competition. In reply, Gambhir said:

“The conditions in Colombo were very different from those in Kandy. Therefore, it’s not fair to determine the adjustments made by any batsman after just one inning. When you bat well, the conditions don’t matter much. Virat Kohli batted exceptionally well today.”
