India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, achieved a significant milestone in his international career during the Asia Cup 2023 final match against Sri Lanka. Rohit Sharma made his 250th ODI appearance for India in the 50-over format as he stepped out to play in the summit clash against Sri Lanka.
Rohit Sharma has become the ninth Indian player to play 250 ODIs, joining an elite list of Indian players including Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Rahul Dravid, Mohammed Azharuddin, Sourav Ganguly, Yuvraj Singh, Virat Kohli, and Anil Kumble. The right-handed batter made his international debut in 2007.
The 36-year-old began his international career as a middle-order batter and initially failed to meet expectations. His fortunes changed after he was assigned as India’s white-ball cricket opener in 2013. The veteran batter has been a regular member of the Indian team for over a decade in both white-ball formats.
Rohit Sharma Becomes Second Fastest Batter To Score 10,000 ODI Runs
The Indian skipper has scored 10,037 runs with an average of 48.69 and a strike rate of 90.26 in the 50-over format. He has smashed 30 centuries and 51 half-centuries in his illustrious career. He holds the record for the highest individual score in ODIs, scoring 264 against Sri Lanka in 2014.
The Mumbai cricketer recently became the second-fastest cricketer, after Virat Kohli, to register 10,000 ODI runs. He achieved the milestone during the Super Four match against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup. It took him 248 matches to achieve this milestone, while Virat Kohli did it in 205 innings.
