In a video shared by Star Sports on X, Shubman Gill was asked about his cricketing idol during his formative years. In response, Shubman named Sachin Tendulkar, underscoring the enduring impact of the former skipper’s legacy on the next generation of cricketers.

“My cricketing idol when I was growing up was Sachin sir,” Shubman Gill told Star Sports.

The 24-year-old hasn’t had the opportunity to share a dressing room with Sachin Tendulkar in international or franchise cricket. Gill plays for the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), while Sachin serves as the mentor for the Mumbai Indians (MI).

India Set To Take On Sri Lanka On November 2 In Mumbai

Shubman Gill missed the first two matches of the World Cup 2023 after testing positive for dengue ahead of the match against Australia. The young batter returned to the team for the crucial encounter against archrivals Pakistan, scoring 16 runs off 11 deliveries.

Gill will be next seen in action on Thursday, November 2, when the Men in Blue take on Kusal Mendis-led Sri Lanka in their upcoming match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The batter will be hoping to regain his form before the knockout matches.

The Rohit Sharma-led team is the only undefeated team in the marquee tournament so far. The Men in Blue top the 10-team table with 12 points. They have registered six victories in the tournament and need one more win to officially qualify for the semi-finals.
