Former India head coach Ravi Shastri brutally roasted England after they suffered another heavy defeat in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. The Jos Buttler-led side found themselves on the receiving end of a brilliant bowling performance from India on Sunday (October 29).

England started well with the ball after their captain won the toss and opted to bowl first. They had India reeling at 40 for 3. India did recover thanks to a brilliant knock of 87 from captain Rohit Sharma but eventually managed to post a modest total of 229 for 9 in the allotted 50 overs.

While England were not in the best of forms coming into the game, not many were expecting the reigning world champions to have much trouble in chasing down the modest total. However, India’s bowlers had other ideas. Led by their star pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, the hosts blew away the defending champions. India bowled England out for just 129 runs to win the game by 100 runs.

Ravi Shastri trolls England:

While England have faced severe criticism for their disastrous performance in the ongoing competition, Ravi Shastri decided to roast them. The former India allrounder highlighted their horrendous performance in the competition and questioned their status as the world champions.

“England should be devastated – spectators, supporters. Because the first match which they lost, 17 overs were left in the game when New Zealand beat them. Against South Africa, they got all out in 20 overs. That game ended early.

“Then they were all out in 30 overs against Sri Lanka, where SL chased the target and finished the match in 25 overs. Today, they had lost 8 wickets inside 32 overs. You call yourselves World Champions? It means, if they aren’t sad over their performance, who will?” Ravi Shastri said in the commentary box.

He then spoke about the difference between India and England and came up with a gem of a comment, saying: “If someone asks what is the difference between India and England, it is of 8 teams”.

With just 1 win from 6 games, England are all but out of the ongoing World Cup. They are currently languishing at the bottom of the points table and are also in danger of missing out on a Champions Trophy spot. With three more games remaining, they will be looking to finish on a high and avoid the wooden spoon.
