Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra lauded Virat Kohli for his half-century during Day 1 of the second Test against the West Indies in Trinidad on Thursday, July 20. Aakash Chopra pointed out that Virat Kohli became the first batter to score a half-century in his 500th international game.

Virat Kohli came to the crease at No. 4 when the team’s score was 153-2. The 34-year-old scored an unbeaten 87 off 161 deliveries with the help of eight boundaries. The batter added a 106-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja, who scored 36 runs, helping the team end the day of play at 288/4.

Virat Kohli Took His Time – Aakash Chopra

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra highlighted that discipline is the biggest factor in Virat Kohli‘s success. Chopra stated that Kohli showed determination, dedication, and discipline during his 87-run knock.

“Virat Kohli became the first batter to score a half-century in his 500th game. When someone plays 500 games, what are the most important things for him? The biggest thing is discipline. This player reigns because of discipline,” Chopra said.

His Driving Makes Him Extremely Special – Aakash Chopra

The cricketer-turned-commentator said that Virat Kohli’s drives are a delight to watch and wished him to convert this knock into a triple-digit milestone.

“After that his driving, that is another ‘D’, which is beautiful. He has been a slightly bottom-handed player right from his childhood and such a player doesn’t drive that well through the cover region but his driving makes him extremely special,” he further stated.

Virat Kohli will be hoping to end his nearly five-year wait for an overseas Test century. His last Test century in away conditions was during India’s tour of Australia in 2018-19.
