IND vs WI: Alick Athanaze, Kirk McKenzie Are Future Of West Indies Team Says Kraigg Brathwaite

West Indies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite lauded youngsters Alick Athanaze and Kirk McKenzie for their stunning performances in IND vs WI Test series. The Caribbean opener also said that the duo is the future of the West Indies team.

Left-handed batsman Alick Athanaze scored 112 runs in India vs West Indies Test series. Kirk Mckenzie scored 32 runs. Both these players also made their Test debuts in the series against India. While Alick Athanaze made his debut in the 1st Test, Mckenzie played his first-ever Test in 2nd encounter in Trinidad.

Alick Athanaze And Kirk McKenzie Are Future Of West Indies Team: Kraigg Brathwaite

During the post-match presentation, West Indies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite hailed both the debutants. He said that he has a lot of belief in both the guys and they are the future of the West Indies team.

“Alick (Athanaze) looked good from the word go. In the Dominica Test, he belonged. They have good pitches in Australia. Continue working on your game, come and enjoy it. Kirk (McKenzie) looked good in his first match. These two guys have promise. They are the future. I have a lot of belief in these two”, the left-handed batter said.

Alick Athanaze scored 47, 28, and 37 across three innings of the two Tests against India. In the 1st match, he was the highest run-getter for his team. After skipper Brathwaite, he was the top run-scorer for West Indies in the series. Kirk Mckenzie could only play 1 innings in the 2nd innings, in which he added 32 runs with the bat.

We Showed Some Fight In This Game With The Bat: Kraigg Brathwaite

Talking about IND vs WI 2nd Test, Brathwaite said that his team showed some fight in the match with the bat. He also accepted that they could have been more disciplined with bowling.

“We showed some fight in this game with the bat. Bowling-wise, we can be more disciplined. It was a good comeback from the batters. We lost five wickets yesterday, that was not good.

We were positive, we had 98 overs on a pitch that was relatively good. It (chase) was on. Unfortunately with the weather, we did not get a chance,” said Brathwaite, who scored the most 130 runs for West Indies in the series.

India vs West Indies 2nd Test in Trinidad ended in a draw. Day 5 of the match was washed out due to rain when West Indies needed 289 more runs to win while India needed 8 wickets for victory.

However, India managed to win the series 1-0. The Rohit Sharma-led side won the opening Test by an innings and 141 runs. Both the teams will now wrestle in a three-match ODI series.
