Former West Indies skipper Brian Lara has fired a warning to bowlers around the world after Virat Kohli’s latest century in international cricket. Playing his 500th international game, the former India captain made the game even more special for him by playing a fine knock of 121 runs in the ongoing second Test against West Indies.
India were in a spot of bother in the first innings after being reduced to 182 for 4 from 139 for no loss. But before West Indies could make more inroads, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja steadied the ship and batted India to a strong position. The duo added 159 runs for the fifth wicket before a run-out ended Virat Kohli’s stay at the crease.
Thanks to Virat Kohli’s century and fifties from Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, India finished their first innings on 438. Virat Kohli now has 29 centuries in Tests and 76 in international cricket. Only the legendary Sachin Tendulkar has more international tons than Kohli at present.
Brian Lara reacts to Virat Kohli’s century:
With Virat Kohli once again scoring runs for fun, the legendary Brian Lara has come up with a timely warning for bowlers around the world. The former cricketer pointed out that Kohli has looked in good touch in recent times. He also said that the right-hander would love to take his Test average to over 50 again and finish his career with an average close to 60.
“He’s a great player, someone like that, you are not going to keep them down for long. If you do, some people have to pay at the end of the day. The way he has looked in the IPL and recently, he’s just an awesome player, and you can’t expect someone like that to be down for long,” Lara said during an interview with RevSportz.
“Someone like him, I think he might be back to 50 average. He would want to finish somewhere in the late 50s. So he’s got to score a lot of runs and I think he’s got it in him. He’s got the discipline, he is committed and he is a joy to watch. People around the world loves seeing Virat Kohli bat,” he added.
