Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer believes that middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav will get a chance to play in the third and final ODI against the West Indies. Wasim Jaffer said that it could be his last chance in the ODI format with Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul returning for the Asia Cup 2023.
Suryakumar Yadav was backed by the team management, despite his underwhelming performances in the ODI format. The right-handed batter had registered three consecutive golden ducks against Australia. He continued his poor form and scored 19 and 24 in the first two ODIs against the Windies.
Suryakumar Yadav Will Find Difficult – Wasim Jaffer
Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, Wasim Jaffer said that Suryakumar Yadav will find it difficult to secure a place in the squad for the Asia Cup 2023.
“I think he will probably get one more opportunity in the third ODI. And that’s probably it. Because KL (Rahul) and Shreyas Iyer might come in. He will find difficult to get into get into the side,” Jaffer told ESPNCricinfo.

He Takes Very High-Risk Options – Wasim Jaffer
Wasim Jaffer pointed out that Suryakumar Yadav plays high-risk shots, which can cause his downfall in the 50-over format. He suggested that Surya should focus on converting his starts into big scores in this format.
“The way he bats, he takes very high-risk options and looks to hit boundaries. Sometimes that makes him lose his wicket every now and then. It’s his nature to take a risky options, sometimes makes him lose his wicket,” he further stated.
“He needs to change that, especially in this format. You can’t keep looking to hit boundaries every second or third ball. Getting a start and then losing that start, throwing his wicket away. Today was one such case again, and that he needs to improve in his 50-over batting.”
The Men in Blue will take on the Shai Hope-led team in the third and final ODI of the three-match series at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad on August 1.
