West Indies skipper Shai Hope expressed disappointment over the batters’ performance in the first ODI of the three-match series against India in Bridgetown on Thursday, July 27. Shai Hope admitted that the batters didn’t play well on a challenging pitch against a quality bowling attack.
The Windies were bundled out for 114 runs after being asked to bat first. The hosts lost three wickets to Indian pacers inside nine overs. Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer tried to build a partnership, but they lost seven wickets to the spin duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav.
Not Too Many Words Come To Mind – Shai Hope
During the post-match presentation, Shai Hope opened up about the Windies’ batting collapse and said that they need to find ways to survive in challenging batting conditions.
“Not too many words come to mind. We didn’t play the way we needed to, we need to find ways to score on difficult pitches like this. I’m not making excuses but anyone watching cricket can see what is happening here,” Hope said.
Hope showed a fighting spirit despite wickets falling from the other end. He scored 43 runs off 45 balls before being dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav in the 23rd over of the West Indies innings.

Jayden Seals Is A Quality Player – Shai Hope
Shai Hope lauded young pacer Jayden Seales, stating that he has the ability to become a good bowler for them if they invest in him.
“He is a quality player, somebody we can invest in and I hope he grows from strength to strength. The Indian bowlers did well on this surface, but we didn’t bat well,” he concluded.
Jayden Seales provided an early breakthrough for his team by dismissing Shubman Gill for 7 runs. The right-arm pacer impressed with his line and lengths and conceded 21 runs in his four overs, including one wicket.
