The 31-year-old West Indies National Cricket Team pace-bowling all-rounder Jason Holder delivered a Player of the Match performance for his side in the first T20I of the five-match series against India National Cricket Team at the Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad on Thursday, August 03.
In his 4-over spell, the right-arm pacer gave away runs at an economy of 4.75 and he picked up huge wickets of Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav. In the 16th over of India’s innings, Holder castled the Indian captain on the first ball, and on the third ball of the same over Sanju Samson got run out.
According to Holder that 16th over was the turning point of the match that cost India the game and helped West Indies take a 1-0 lead in the series with a 4-run victory.
“I was happy that I stuck with my plans. I wanted to make them work hard for their runs, didn’t want to give any free runs. It (16th over) was the turning point based on the fact that the game was coming down very close. They had set batters and we had to stay in the game,” Jason Holder said.
Break Was Needed From ODIs – Jason Holder
Jason Holder said that he was playing cricket regularly for an extended period and the break from the ODIs against India was a much-needed one for him. He said:
“The amount of cricket I’ve been playing for the last three years, it’s lot. I try to find some passages of break, get some time off, refresh and come back again. I think it (break from the ODIs) was needed.
He concluded by showering praise on his teammates for sticking together and guiding the team to victory. Jason Holder said:
“The guys really stuck together, it was a total team effort. The conditions played in the favour of the bowlers. We got early wickets, which is really important.”
