Rovman Powell, the West Indies skipper, after winning the five-match T20I series against India said that they were playing for the people of the Caribbean.

West Indies turned themselves to be the superior team in the 20-over series and won the fifth T20I match by eight runs. In the first innings, Suryakumar Yadav led the Men in Blue and set a target of 166 runs after he scored 61 runs from 45 balls.

In the second innings, the Caribbean batsmen Brandon King and Nicholas Pooran played a solid partnership which helped the host to win the match. India failed to take wickets which cost them the series.

While speaking in the post-match presentation, Rovman Powell failed to hide his emotion and said it is difficult to put the feeling into adjectives and that they knew it was a big series.

Powell also revealed that after the fourth T20I defeat the team held a meeting.

“It’s difficult to put into adjectives. The guys knew that it was a big series. To beat India is a big thing. Emotions are high definitely. Last night when we got defeated, we sat down and had a meeting. We are playing for the people of the Caribbean was what we spoke about and that we needed to perform for them,” Rovman Powell said.

Powell praised Nicholas Pooran and said that he was the main component of the team against India in the fifth match. Powell also praised the bowlers for dismissing a strong batting lineup.

“We sat up and spoke about Nicholas being a very important component of the team. Other batters around them have to do their work as well. Credit goes to the bowlers as well for retracting the powerful batting lineup.” Rovman Powell added.

The West Indies skipper said that the Caribbean supporters were behind not only just in the stadiums but on social media as well where the fans showed their support.

“The West Indies supporters are always behind us. Not just physically but also on social media. It shows that cricket is so much more for the people of the Caribbean. A big thanks to the fans for coming in numbers,” Powell concluded.

Notably, this is for the first time India have lost a five-match T20I series.
