India skipper Rohit Sharma has expressed his disappointment over not being able to win the second Test against West Indies due to rain. India were in a solid position in the game and were looking set to win it before rain shattered their hopes.

Not a single delivery could be bowled on the final day of the Test. The rain had also washed away over 40 overs on the third and fourth day. As a result, India not only missed the opportunity to clean-sweep the series but also dropped eight crucial World Test Championship points. Before the final day was washed out, India were eight wickets away from winning the game.

Chasing a record 365, West Indies were on 76 for 2 at stumps on day four. Earlier in the game, India had scored 438 runs in the first innings thanks to a century from Virat Kohli and half-centuries from Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ravichandran Ashwin.

In reply, West Indies were all out for 255 after losing their last five wickets for just 26 runs. Mohammed Siraj was the star with the ball, taking 5 for 60. In the second innings, India scored a quickfire 181 for 2 (declared) to set West Indies the big target.

Rohit Sharma disappointed with the draw:

Speaking at the end of the match, Rohit Sharma expressed his disappointment over the way the game ended in a draw. While he was happy with the series win, he made it clear that he wanted to win the second Test too. Rohit Sharma stated that Team India were confident of getting a result in the game.

“Every win is different. Playing in West Indies or in India has its own challenge. I am very happy how things went here.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t get any play today… we actually went out with a positive intent yesterday, wanting to get a result. We were quite confident. We know how difficult it is batting last. We always wanted that kind of a score where the teams went for it. The opposition, sitting in the change room, should think we have a chance,” said Rohit Sharma.
