The 23-year-old India National Cricket Team opening batsman Shubman Gill has expressed disappointment over his performances on the ongoing West Indies tour.

Gill, who has quickly established himself as India’s all-format batter, has failed to get going in the series against West Indies. In the two-match Test series, he registered scores of 6, 10 & 29*. As the ODIs commenced, many expected him to return to his best, but that didn’t happen. The opening batter scored 7 runs in the first game and just 34 in the second match.

Speaking on Jio Cinema ahead of the series decider against West Indies, Shubman Gill said that he is not satisfied with his performance.

“Not very satisfied with how things have gone on this tour for me. But I have been batting well. It’s about the mental resilience and about converting starts into a big one,” Gill aired his concerns to the broadcasters.

Gill further spoke about his dismissal in the second ODI where he was cleaned up by Gudakesh Motie while going for a big shot.

“It was a case of not executing well. I could have hit over covers than long-off. It was time to step on the accelerator – the mindset was to get towards 270,” he stated.

Shubman Gill added that the West Indies bowlers have performed extremely well in the ongoing ODI series.

“Not easy for any middle order batter to rotate strike in these conditions. West Indies bowlers have done well and bowled in tight areas. Hopefully, we’ll be able to turn this around and win the series,” Gill added.

India won the first match by 5 wickets while chasing a small total of 115 and West Indies won the second ODI by 6 wickets while chasing 182 runs.

The series decider of the three ODIs between the West Indies National Cricket Team and the National Cricket Team is being held at the Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad on Tuesday, August 1.
