Tilak Varma, the left-handed batsman who made his India debut in the first T20I match against West Indies on Thursday (August 03) has opened up on his stand-in skipper, Hardik Pandya, and told what the captain said to him before his debut.
While speaking ahead of the second T20I game, Tilak Varma said that Hardik Pandya said to him to continue to play like he used to perform in Indian Premier League (IPL) and domestic cricket.
“Yeah, it has been good. I was enjoying my game, during the IPL, preparing for India matches and all. I have enjoyed my game and it has given me good results. Yeah, when I was debuting, our captain, Hardik was saying the same thing. The way you were doing in the IPL, just to do that, and I followed,” Tilak Varma said on Hardik Pandya.
While talking about the pitch condition at Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad, Tilak Varma said that it was a slower one.
When asked about his debut, Varma said that it was a good start and that he is always confident on the crease. Tilak Varma further said that he is an attacking fielder which has given him good results.
“The wicket was on the slower side [on the pitch behavior last day]. I was thinking to keep my head still and to go for the ones in my arc. Yeah, it has been good [on his catch in the last match]. I have always been confident in the field. I have been an attacking fielder, and giving the energy and the intensity in the field has given me good results,” Tilak Varma further added.
Tilak Varma’s soothing performance against West Indies
In the second T20I match of the five-game series, Tilak Varma played a 51-run knock in 41 balls and scored his maiden half-century for the Men in Blues. He was dismissed in the 16th over by Akeal Hosein.
Even though India lost the first two games but Tilak Varma’s performance in the series has been consistent and should be applauded.
India lost the second T20I match by two wickets and will be looking forward to finding an anecdote and changing the momentum of the team.
The Men in Blues will lock horns against the Caribbeans in the third T20I on Tuesday (August 08) at Providence Stadium, Guyana.
