Despite India fielding first in the ongoing first T20I against West Indies at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad, young Tilak Varma, who is making his debut for the national side, has given an impression of what he could do on the field.

Tilak Varma showcased his brilliant fielding skills on his debut as he pouched a sensational catch in the deep to send West Indies batter Johnson Charles packing for just 3 runs. Although Kuldeep Yadav picked the wicket, full credit for the scalp goes to young Tilak.

Kuldeep Yadav bowled a tossed-up delivery to which Johnson Charles tried to slog sweep for a six. But he miscued it and the ball kept in the air for a long. Tilak Varma ran almost 10-15 meters to his left and timed his dive to perfection to take a blinder, putting his team on the top.

Tilak Varma earned his maiden call-up for the Indian team after his stupendous show in the last two IPL seasons along with a rollicking domestic season. He has been one of the consistent batters in the shortest format and a lot of eyes would be on him when India bats.

Tilak Varma has an exceptional record in the T20s and his numbers suggest why is he playing for India other than youngsters. The southpaw has played 47 T20s and has smashed 1418 runs at a good average and strike rate of 37.31 and 142.51 respectively. Along with this, he has smashed 10 half-centuries as well.

His record in IPL is even more eye-catching as in 25 games he has smashed 740 runs at an average of 38.95 along with a dazzling strike rate of 144.53. He has been the mainstay of the Mumbai Indians’ batting lineup and also has smashed three half-centuries as well.
