Shubman Gill’s first ODI century helped India defeat Zimbabwe in the third ODI. India scored 289 for 8 at the Harare Sports Club on Monday (August 22).

Gill’s 97-ball 130, the highest individual ODI score by an Indian in Zimbabwe, included 15 fours and a six.

He also shared a 140-run third-wicket stand with Ishan Kishan (50) to help India post a challenging total. Brad Evans (5-54) was Zimbabwe’s standout bowler, taking his first four wickets.

Evans finished the ODI with a five-for. His father, the former Zimbabwe all-rounder Craig Evans, applauded as he had Gill caught at long-off for 130.

I Just Tried To Minimise The Dot-Ball Percentage: Shubman Gill

Shikhar Dhawan had earlier started the first few overs with a flurry of boundaries, driving, cutting, and flicking. Rahul won the toss yet again and chose to bat first. Rahul, on the other hand, got off to a slow start and never looked settled eventually losing his wicket for just 30.

The Zimbabwean bowlers, who bowled inconsistent lines and lengths at first, quickly tightened up as they were able to contain the openers. Dhawan was also given a life when Richard Ngarava put him down at point but he could not make the most of it.

Shubman Gill scored 245 runs in the series and scored 130 in the third ODI and was awarded the Player of the Series and Player of the Match respectively for his performance, “I was just trying to minimise my dot-ball percentage. I just tried to time the ball and not hit it hard. Raza and Evans were bowling well and it was crucial to target the bowlers. The bat was pretty good and that’s why I changed it after my fifty as I wanted to save it. Always special to get a hundred, I had made three nineties but wanted to get a century”, Gill said in the post-match presentation.

“It’s a great bunch of players and I have been playing with them for some time now. This one is for my dad as he has been my primary coach. I got a bit of schooling the day before yesterday when I was out on 33. So this is for him”, he further added.
