Following a dominating 9-wicket win in the first T20I, India Women hosted Australia Women in the second match of the series. The virtual series decider between the teams took place at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.

Australia won the toss and opted to field first. They were on the money right from the start and didn’t let Indian batters score freely. Kim Garth jolted the hosts early on as she removed Shefali Verma (1) in the second over by trapping her in the lbw.

Jemimah Rodrigues (13), who came to bat at No.3, played some attacking shots but Kim Garth had better of her as she removed the batter in her second over. Smriti Mandhana (23) and Harmanpreet Kaur (6) tried to bail the team out of trouble but it didn’t happen.

Annabelle Sutherland removed Smriti in the 8th over before Ashleigh Gardner sent skipper Harmanpreet Kaur packing. India women were left tottering at 54/4. It was then that Richa Ghosh (23) and Deepti Sharma (30) joined hands together and bailed the team out of trouble.

They added 33 runs for the 5th wicket before Richa got out. Soon, after that Deepti Sharma got a runout and India yet again came under pressure. But thanks to their crucial partnership, they posted a total of 130 runs on the board.

For Australian women, Kim Garth picked two wickets whereas Annabelle Sutherland and Georgia Wareham also chipped in and picked two wickets each. Their sensational performance saw them restricting the opposition to a low total of 130 runs.

In the chase, Australia Women were off to a flying start. Alyssa Healy (26) and Beth Mooney (20) made sure that they put their team in a great position early on. The duo added 51 runs for the opening partnership and put Indian women under great pressure.

But Deepti Sharma brought India back in the game. She removed both the openers and made sure that he gave fans something to cheer about. Tahlia McGrath (19) and Ellyse Perry (34*) then put the hosts under pressure with their 31-run partnership but the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side yet again made a comeback.

Shreyanka Patil sent Tahlia McGrath packing before Pooja Vastrakar removed Ashleigh Gardner to leave Australia at 97/4. However, Australian women made sure that they didn’t let the game drift away and cash on the start they got despite losing the regular wickets.

Ellyse Perry played an unbeaten knock of 34 runs that took the game away from India. Phoebe Litchfield (18*) supported her well in the end. Australia women comfortably chased the target with 6 wickets in hand and also had 6 balls to spare.

The series between India Women and Australia Women is now leveled at 1-1. The focus now shifts towards the third T20 that will be played on 9th January at the same venue. With the kind of way two games panned out, it promises to be an exciting series decider between the teams.
