India women’s batter Smriti Mandhana talked about the absence of a head coach in the team. She said that the BCCI is on the hunt for the same and sometimes as a player it’s an advantage for them as new coaching staff comes with new tips and new positives.

India women’s team has been without a head coach since December last year after Ramesh Powar was sacked from the role. The team took part in the T20 World Cup 2023 without a head coach and is even playing the ongoing series against Bangladesh without one.

BCCI recently took the interviews of a few candidates this month and as per the various reports it is learned that the new head coach of the Indian team will be announced soon. The reports also suggested that Amol Muzumdar is the front-runner to take the role.

Smriti Mandhana, who is the vice-captain of the team, shared his verdict on the absence of a coach and said that as players they are not concerned about what is happening around them and are focused more on how to play. Speaking to reporters, he said:

The BCCI has been hunting for a long-term coach and we will have one soon. It’s not a very big thing in terms of players. We want to play the best brand of cricket we can. All the coaching staff that has come in has been really helpful.

“Sometimes it’s an advantage, new coaching staff comes with new tips and new

positives. If I take it very positively then its a good thing. For us as a team, it is not important what is happening around us. How we play our brand of cricket is more important. We will have to wait for the series to finish and see what happens.”

I have been batting well in the nets – Smriti Mandhana on her batting

Smriti Mandhana hasn’t been at his best with the bat in the ongoing tour. She managed a total of 52 runs in the three-match T20I series and followed it up with 11 and 36 in the first and second ODIs respectively.

Smriti Mandhana said that she has been batting well in the nets and she is working hard on getting runs in the match. She admitted that she hasn’t applied application well which is the reason behind her poor outings. She explained:

“I have been batting well in the nets and in the matches I have been getting starts. It doesn’t happen very often that I am middling the ball and still not getting runs for the team but I have been working on it.

“The last match for me was pretty positive, the way I was able to get the team off to a decent start but threw my wicket away. It’s more about application.. my batting is going well but application hasn’t been always the way I applied.”

Smriti Mandhana will be next seen in action when Indian women will face Bangladesh women in the series decider on 22nd July in Dhaka.
