We will have to wait for a few days for more clarity on the availability of the players - BCCI source
A source close to BCCI confirmed that those players whose teams make it to the playoffs will be missing the initial part of the India A tour. He also stressed that they don't have any clarity about which will make it into the playoffs, and hence, they will take some time to announce the A squad. Speaking to the Times of India, he said:
"The problem is that quite a few players, who are supposed to be picked for the India A tour, will be busy for their franchises as the IPL playoffs start only from May 29. In such a scenario, those players whose teams make it to the playoffs are likely to miss at least the initial part of the India A tour of England.
"Right now, we don’t have complete clarity on which teams will make the playoffs and which won't. For example, can the selectors pick Karun Nair, whose team Delhi Capitals is in the race for a playoffs berth? I guess we will have to wait for a few days for more clarity on the availability of the players, as the IPL scenario will become clearer."
Jaiswal and Jurel are likely to be there - BCCI source
The source further added that Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel are likely to be picked in the India A squad. He added that the selectors are keen to give left-handers match practice in the English conditions. He elaborated:
"Jaiswal and Jurel are likely to be there as their team (Rajasthan Royals) is not in contention for an IPL playoffs berth. The selectors are keen that Jaiswal gets some match practice in the English conditions before the first Test."
Devdutt Padikkal and Rajat Patidar ruled out of India A games, Shardul Thakur to make comeback
The reports also added that Devdutt Padikkal and Rajat Patidar won't be featuring in the India A squad due to injuries. The duo faced injuries during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. While the left-hander has been ruled out league, there are doubts over his participation.
Also, it is reported that Shardul Thakur is all set to make a comeback in the Indian team for the Test series against England. He was sensational with the bat and ball in the Ranji Trophy for Mumbai. He took 35 wickets in nine matches and scored 505 runs to go with four fifties and one century.
