The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named the India A squad for their upcoming tour of England, set to commence on May 30. Abhimanyu Easwaran will captain the team, while Karun Nair, who was in sublime form across formats in domestic cricket, has been included in the squad.

India A will take on England Lions in two unofficial Tests, with the first match from May 30 to June 2 at Canterbury, followed by the second from June 6 to 9 in Northampton. The Abhimanyu Easwaran-led team will conclude the tour with a four-day intra-squad fixture in Beckenham from June 13 to 16.

BCCI Announces Squad for India A Tour of England

Several senior and young players have been named in the India A squad for the upcoming tour of England to help them adapt to English conditions ahead of the Test series. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sarfaraz Khan, and Nitish Reddy have been included in the red-ball series.

Fast bowlers Khaleel Ahmed, Shardul Thakur, Akash Deep, and Mukesh Kumar have also secured places in the squad. Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan will miss the opening match due to IPL playoff commitments. Wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel has been named vice-captain of the team.

With the recent Test retirements of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravichandran Ashwin, the A tour is expected to serve as a platform, with many players from the squad in contention for the main team for the five-Test series starting on June 20.

Karun Nair Included in India A Squad for England Tour

Karun Nair has been rewarded with a place in the India A squad following an outstanding domestic season in 2024-25, where he scored nine centuries across formats. The 33-year-old amassed 863 runs in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 at an average of 53.93, including four hundreds and two fifties.

Nair has scored 8,211 runs from 114 first-class matches at an average of 49.16, including 23 centuries and 36 half-centuries. With the retirements of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma from Test cricket, the right-handed batter will be looking to make a comeback into the national squad.

He has played six Tests for India between 2016 and 2017, scoring 374 runs in seven innings. The batter scored an unbeaten 303 against England in Chennai — becoming only the second Indian to score a triple century in Test cricket.
