The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has delayed the India A squad selection for the upcoming England tour due to the revised IPL playoff schedule, which has affected player availability. According to RevSportz, the first group of India A players is expected to leave for England on May 25.

India have struggled in recent Test series. They suffered a 3-0 defeat at home against New Zealand and then a 3-1 series loss to Australia during the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) in Australia. Team India missed out on reaching the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final for the first time.

India A's First Batch Set to Depart for England on May 25

India are set to kick off their 2025–27 World Test Championship campaign with a five-match away series in England. Ahead of that, the India A side will play three matches, two against the England Lions and one against the senior Indian team. These games will help players adapt to English conditions.

According to a RevSportz report, India A players will travel to England in phases, starting on May 25. The first group will include those whose IPL league stage is over. As teams get eliminated from the IPL playoffs, more players will join the squad in England.

"With the IPL schedule out, top sources have now confirmed that players will leave in batches and that the first India A batch will depart for England on the 25th of May. Whoever is selected and their league games are done will be a part of the first batch. As the tournament progresses, players from the franchises who have been knocked out of the tournament will immediately fly out to England," the report reads.

Second Batch of India A Players to Depart in Early June for England Tour

A second group will join in early June ahead of the second match. According to The Indian Express, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ishan Kishan are part of the squad.

Karun Nair, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Dhruv Jurel, Shardul Thakur, Tanush Kotian, Akash Deep, Khaleel Ahmed, Anshul Kamboj, and Manav Suthar will also be included.

However, Devdutt Padikkal and Rajat Patidar are expected to miss the tour due to injuries. India A will play two matches against the England Lions, scheduled for May 30–June 2 and June 6–9, followed by an intra-squad game from June 13–16.

A New Era Begins for India in Test Cricket Without Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli

India are set to enter a new era in Test cricket as they head to England without veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The veteran cricketers have announced their retirement from the longer format.

The captaincy is likely to pass to Shubman Gill, who is reportedly the frontrunner to be named captain. Rishabh Pant, known for his success in overseas conditions, is expected to be appointed as vice-captain.

This young Indian squad will take on England in the five-match Test series starting June 20 at Headingley. The series will be challenging for young Indian players against English bowlers in swinging conditions.
