Former India National Cricket Team skipper Sourav Ganguly has launched an attack on Rohit Sharma for the downfall of the Indian team in Test cricket.

Sourav Ganguly, who is disappointed with the way Team India have been performing in red-ball cricket, has also expressed his surprise at the poor form of Rohit Sharma in the format.

Team India lost their last 2 Test series

The Men In Blue have faced defeats in the last two Test series they competed in against the New Zealand National Cricket Team and the Australia National Cricket Team.

Before the series against Australia and New Zealand, India played a two-match home Test series against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team and registered a dominant 2-0 whitewash.

However, after that, things only went downhill for India as they faced an embarrassing 0-3 whitewash at the hands of New Zealand at home. It was the first instance of such a thing happening in Indian cricket history.

They next traveled to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 and started off the tour with a stunning win in Perth, but then delivered poor performances in the next few matches and faced a 1-3 defeat. It was the first time in a decade that India lost the Border-Gavaskar series.

A player of his stature and ability can do much better - Sourav Ganguly

Meanwhile, the former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly expressed his disappointment over Rohit Sharma's performance in Test cricket and said that he needs to put on his thinking cap ahead of the India tour of England 2025.

"What has surprised me is his form in red ball over last 4-5 years. A player of his stature and ability, he can do much better than what he has done. He must put on his thinking cap because we have 5 Tests against England and that's going to be another hard series.

"IJust like the way it was in Australia. It's going to seam; it's going to swing. India need him to perform in the red ball but in white ball, he is one of the greatest ever," Ganguly said during Trailblazers 3.0, by RevSportz.

I don't know whether he's going to continue playing Test - Sourav Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly further hailed Rohit Sharma as a fabulous captain and acknowledged his contributions in revolutionizing the white-ball team of India.

However, he ordered Rohit to take the responsibility of turning things around in Test cricket as well and help India get better in the purest format of the game.

"Leadership is very important. I have always said that Rohit Sharma is a fabulous captain. Because that's what I see, that's what I notice when he is captaining India. I've seen him captain Mumbai Indians. I have captained India for so many matches so I can see the traits in a captain," Ganguly added.

"I'm not surprised that he's taken the side to greater heights in white ball. I don't know whether he's going to continue playing Test cricket but if he is hearing me, he should take the responsibility of turning things around in red-ball. India are not good at red-ball at the moment and they need to look at it, find a way to play well in England because that's going to be a very important five-Test series. Rohit has to find a way to get this team going."
