Former India coach analyzes Rohit Sharma's growth as an ODI batter
Former India cricketer Abhishek Nayar, who is known as Rohit Sharma's best friend, has credited Rohit Sharma for having revolutionized white-ball cricket in India. He has transformed Indian cricket with his aggressive brand of strokeplay.
Abhishek Nayar analyzed Rohit Sharma's growth as an ODI batter, saying (as quoted by IANS), "Rohit has transitioned well in ODIs. From starting lower down the order early on in his career to becoming a secure opener."
"This is where he truly evolved, changing how India plays white-ball cricket by adopting an aggressive approach focused on hitting sixes rather than just accumulating runs. His leadership by example, playing without worrying about centuries, has raised team standards," Nayar told JioStar.
Abhishek Nayar decodes Rohit Sharma's no-step-out policy against South Africa
Rohit started off the series in Australia with a blast; however, in the South Africa series, he has restricted himself from stepping out of the crease for big hits. Abhishek Nayar decodes why Sharma has suddenly brought this change to his type of strokeplay in limited-overs cricket.
Abhishek Nayar, too, has noted that Rohit Sharma has not been using his usual tactic of advancing down the track against seamers, and to reason with it, he has stated that "Rohit hasn't stepped out to hit big shots mainly due to swinging conditions in this series."
"When he feels the ball isn't swinging much, he confidently takes on bowlers. He's been careful with his footwork because of the uncertain pitch bounce. But in familiar Vizag conditions, we'll likely see his aggressive stepping-out game return," Nayar added.
Virat Kohli's magnificent tactics lauded by Abhishek Nayar
Abhishek Nayar has also shed light on his opinion concerning Virat Kohli's sheer form and his execution of shots at several crucial moments of the game. He has noted that Kohli usually brings his bat down straight when it makes contact with the ball and mentioned that this is something new that he has improvised in his technique.
"But here, every single time you see him hit the ball, his head is right over it. That happens very regularly. He brings the bat down in line with the ball, even when it is angling away. He manages to play it straight all the time. That is his greatness and a main reason he has been so successful," said Abhishek Nayar.
Speaking of the tactical changes Kohli has brought to his batting after the limited success in the Australia series, Nayar claimed that Kohli has been alternating between his guards in the last two ODI innings. He has been taking guard of either the leg, the off, or the middle stump over different balls. He further noted that Kohli has been using his footwork more, and the conditions have also helped him with the new style of cricket he wants to play.
