The Men in Blue have now gone past Netherlands, who had lost 11 tosses in a row in ODIs from March 2011 to August 2013. India had already equalled Netherlands' record after losing the toss against Bangladesh in the last match.
When did the streak start?
The streak of losing the tosses started during the ODI World Cup 2023 final when India lost the toss to Australia in the summit clash. The Men in Blue also went on to lose the match in a heartbreaking manner.
From that game, Rohit Sharma has led the team in all the ODIs except the series against South Africa played in the latter stages of 2024 away from home. KL Rahul led the team in that series, however, he lost all the three tosses as well.
Recently, the captain Rohit Sharma lost all the tosses during the ODI series against England played at home. However, the Men in Blue won the series 3-0.
The last toss that India won in ODIs was in the 2023 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand. Rohit Sharma had won the toss back then and India posted a formidable total of 397-4 on the board after batting first.
Despite losing the tosses, the Men in Blue have ensured to win the matches. They have been exceptional in the ODI format of late apart from the ODI series against Sri Lanka last year which they lost 0-2 to the home team.
Important game for both the teams
Pakistan didn't have the perfect start to their Champions Trophy campaign as they lost the match to New Zealand by 60 runs. The Men in Green were below par in both the batting and bowling departments and thus, find themselves in a tricky situation now.
On the other hand, India started its campaign with a victory over Bangladesh. The Men in Blue were tested at times but came out on top thanks to a brilliant hundred from the opener Shubman Gill.
Rohit Sharma and his men will be looking to carry on with the winning momentum and claim victory over their arch-rivals.
