Team India, led by KL Rahul, lost another toss during the second ODI against South Africa at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Raipur on Wednesday, December 3. The Men in Blue have extended their unwanted world record streak of losing tosses to 20 in one-day internationals.
India lost the toss for the second straight time in the three-match series, giving South Africa the early advantage once again in conditions where dew could play a crucial role. After winning the first ODI by 17 runs, India will hope to extend their lead, while the visitors, led by Temba Bavuma, aim to level the series.
India Lose 20th Consecutive ODI Toss, Extending Unwanted World Record Streak
India have now lost the toss in 20 straight ODIs, setting an unmatched record in men’s international cricket. The streak began with the 2023 World Cup final in Ahmedabad and has continued through every bilateral and multi-nation ODI they have played since.
The Netherlands previously held the next longest streak, losing 11 tosses in a row between 2011 and 2013. India have now almost doubled that figure, creating a record no other team has come close to.
The Men in Blue will hope this unusual streak ends soon, but the tally has already reached an unwanted 20 consecutive toss losses. However, the team has performed well in recent matches despite the toss disadvantage and even won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 without losing a single match.

I Have Been Practicing So Hard - KL Rahul on the Toss
At the toss, KL Rahul joked that he had been “practicing hard” for winning the toss. Rahul said that India were prepared to bowl with the expected dew and had discussed their plans thoroughly.
"We know what to expect. The boys are looking in good shape. And I'm excited about this game. Before the series as well, we spoke about it (dew). This is a time in India where there is a lot of dew. We're expecting dew in every place that we play. So, the bowlers have spoken about it. A few tactics and a few things that we've spoken about, which I think we did really well in the last game. So, that'll give our bowling team a lot of confidence," Rahul said.
