Team India's batting unit has been a force to reckon with for decades now. India has rarely failed to produce world-class batters in any generation. However, even the best fail to deliver sometimes, and here we are taking a look at such instances when India's famed batting lineup did not live up to expectations.
Over the years, India has faced its share of batting collapses on the field. These rare instances are a stark reminder of the game's unpredictable nature.
India's Lowest Team Score - Test:
India's lowest team score in Tests is 36 runs. They were bowled out for the paltry score during the 2020 Adelaide Test against Australia.
Batting first in the match, India scored 244 runs with captain Virat Kohli scoring 74 runs. In reply, Australia were bowled out for 191 runs. The advantage was with India, but Australia came up with a stunning bowling display in the second innings to put themselves in the driver's seat.
Riding on a sensational display from their pacers, Australia bowled out India for just 36 runs. Not a single batsman from India could reach double digits with Mayank Agarwal's 9 being the highest score. For Australia, Josh Hazlewood picked up 5 wickets for just 8 runs while Pat Cummins took 4 wickets. Australia went on to win the game by 8 wickets.

India's lowest team score in ODIs is 54, which they scored against Sri Lanka in 2000. It is also the only instance where Team India failed to cross the 60-run mark. The series was the Coca-Cola Champions Troph,y also featuring Zimbabwe.
In the final, India and Sri Lanka faced each other in Sharjah. Batting first, Sri Lanka posted a big total of 299/5 in the allotted 50 overs. Captain Sanath Jayasuriya led from the front, scoring a career-best 189 to power his team to the big score. Russell Arnold scored a fifty as well.
In reply, India were bowled out for just 54 runs in 26.3 overs. The Men in Blue kept losing wickets at regular intervals right from the start and were eventually all out for 54. Robin Singh (11) was the only batter to reach double digits. For Sri Lanka, Chaminda Vaas picked up 5 wickets while Muttiah Muralitharan claimed 3 wickets.

India's lowest team score in T20Is came against Australia when they were bowled out for 74 in Melbourne in 2008. Batting first, India scored only 74 runs in 17.3 overs. At one stage, they were reeling at 32 for 5 and even the 50-run mark looked like a distant dream.
However, Irfan Pathan's 26-run knock provided some respectability to the total. Apart from Pathan, no other player could score more than 9 runs. For Australia, Nathan Bracken picked up 3 wickets for 11 runs. With the bat, Australia chased down the total in 11.2 overs by losing just one wicket.
