Former Indian cricketer and well-known commentator, Navjot Singh Sidhu, has made some stunning statements about the Indian cricket team that will certainly not leave many furious while showering rich praise on the skipper, Rohit Sharma.

After India ended the 11-year drought of the ICC trophy by winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Sidhu said that Team India had been playing selfish cricket for the past decade, and that’s why they lost every World Cup and big tournaments.

Rohit Sharma changed Team India from selfish to selfless: Navjot Singh Sidhu

The commentator said that it was Rohit who changed the mindset of the Indian cricket team, and the rest is history, as they made it to the finals of the WTC and ODI World Cup last year. However, India couldn’t win the trophy, but they did not have to wait long for the title after a heartbreaking loss to Australia in the ODI World Cup final in November 2023.

However, according to Sidhu, every Indian player played for the team, for the country, and selflessly, and they created history by winning the T20 World Cup 2024, and that will inspire generations.

Navjot Singh Sidhu said on Star Sports: “The Indian cricket team's Deepak and Pran were the captain, Rohit Sharma. He converted weakness into strength. Just look at the power play. Earlier, the Indian team was playing selfishly, playing for their positions, playing to retain their position in the team.

But in this World Cup, no one was playing for themselves. Everyone was playing for the team without any selfishness, without deceit, and without any personal agenda. To date, there has never been a World Cup where the Indian team has never lost.”

Sindhu also took a dig at Australia captain Pat Cummins for his “silence” remark, as the Men in Blue kept the Kangaroos completely silenced in their Super-8 match to knock them out of the T20 World Cup 2024.

He said that the way Mitchell Starc broke the Indian cricket team’s backbone in the 2023 ODI World Cup final and Pant Cummins said, ‘I will silence the crowd’, they did it in style, crushing dreams of millions of people of seeing the Men in Blue lifting the cup.

But in the T20 World Cup 2024, India kept the Australian silencer completely silenced. Targeting the Indian team by saying that earlier the players played for 100, but now even reaching 90, there is the same continuity and intensity riding on the horse of speed, and these changes brought by Rohit.

The former cricketer stated that “the team that stays together has fun together, laughs together, and never loses,” and Rohit’s team proved that by winning the second T20 World Cup after 17 years.

This selfless captain will be remembered generation after generation: Sidhu

In his famous poetic style, Sidhu hailed Rohit and Team India by saying, “Rohit Sharma. Oh, the flood of time—how often everyone gets swept away. This time is very stormy. Even the mountains bow down. Often, the people of the world get lost in time. But there are some, like Rohit Sharma and the Indian cricket team, who make history.”

He signed off by saying, “The world will come and go. But this captain, this selfless captain, in the form of an organization, with Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja, said goodbye to the format, but he will always be remembered in the form of a source of inspiration, generation after generation.”
