The India National Cricket Team is all set to introduce another talent to the international arena in the upcoming two-match Test series against the West Indies, starting on October 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The second and final test will be played in Delhi from October 10.

As the Indian selectors are set to announce the Test squad for the West Indies series on Wednesday, September 24, a new spin sensation is all set to make the headlines. Actually, Manav Suthar is strongly in contention to earn his maiden India call-up for the upcoming home series.

Manav Suthar set for India debut in West Indies Test series

Rajasthan’s talented left-arm spinner has been turning heads with his consistent performances for India A. The 23-year-old spinner delivered a stunning five-wicket haul on Day 1 of the ongoing second and final unofficial Test match against Australia A in Lucknow.

His bowling figures of 28-4-93-5 dismantled the Australian batting lineup and put the A team in a commanding position. It is being said that the national selectors are increasingly keen to bring fresh talent into the Test side, and Manav Suthar fits that plan perfectly.

The BCCI is reportedly considering fast-tracking the left-arm spinner to groom him alongside senior spinners like Ravindra Jadeja for the future.

As reported by the Hindustan Times, a BCCI source revealed, “He’s been on the radar for some time, and the way he bowled against a strong Australia A batting unit has only strengthened his case. The idea is to start grooming him alongside senior spinners like Ravindra Jadeja.”

Manav Suthar stuns Australia A with five-wicket haul

Meanwhile, Manav Suthar has been consistently delivering for Rajasthan in domestic cricket. He has already claimed 95 wickets in just 23 first-class matches, which speaks volumes of his talent. His recent performance against Australia A has further boosted his case for a maiden Test call-up.

With Australia A looking comfortable at 144/2 on Day 1, Suthar completely turned the match around. He broke the backbone of their innings by dismissing Oliver Peake (29), Cooper Connolly (0), Josh Philippe (39), Will Sutherland (10), and Corey Rocchiccioli (2) to complete his five-wicket haul.

His control, flight, and temperament allowed him to strike regularly while keeping the runs in check; that is something that impressed the national selectors.

Ravindra Jadeja Returns to COE for fitness tests

Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja has returned to the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru to undergo a routine fitness test ahead of the upcoming two-match Test series against the West Indies. Jadeja was in impressive form with both bat and ball on the recent England tour.

While Jadeja remains the team's first-choice left-arm spinner, the possible inclusion of young spinner Suthar as a backup highlights India’s plan to strengthen the spin department and build bench strength, keeping in mind a busy Test calendar ahead.

With the upcoming West Indies series likely to favor spin, including Suthar in the squad would give India more options and variety in their bowling attack. His left-arm spin will complement the senior spinners to form a lethal spin attack for the home series.
