Yadav is picked as a stand-by player in the final India women’s squad for CWG 2022. In T20 World Cup 2020, Poonam Yadav scalped 10 wickets in 5 games during India’s road to the final of the tournament. She was also named in the team of the tournament. However, she has only appeared in 5 more T20Is post that period. She was part f the recent Sri Lanka tour but did not play a single game.

Must Have Been A Shock For Poonam Yadav: Veda Krishnamurthy

While speaking to a query by Hindustan Times on Sony Sports Network, Indian player Veda Krishnamurthy said that a lot of people felt that Poonam Yadav has a slight edge over a few people. She also said that it must have been a shocker for the spinner.

“With Poonam Yadav, she is a fighter. I’m sure she will be putting in a lot of work hours behind her bowling. This must have come as a surprise to her as she must have not expected it. Must have been a shocker. Lot of people felt that Poonam might have had a slight edge over a few people. But in the last few years, due to Covid, a squad of 20 have travelled so everyone was in the mix. But the minute you cut it down to 15 it gets really tight”, Krishnamurthy said.

“Everyone is good enough to be in the XI but it is all about the combination that India wanted. They have Harleen in whom they are investing a lot as an all-rounder. I think they kind of have a strategy in mind and are backing that. They also need someone who can bowl and bat down the order to make that difference. That slight edge Radha Yadav and Harleen gets,” Krishnamurthy further added.
