After a long seven-year hiatus, the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes is returning with a big bang, and the excitement for the unique tournament is palpable, especially with the announcement that India will be among the twelve participating nations.

On Saturday, October 12, Cricket Hong Kong officially unveiled the squad for the upcoming Hong Kong Cricket Sixes tournament, which is scheduled to take place from November 1 to 3 at the iconic Tin Kwong Road Cricket Ground.

Robin Uthappa to lead Team India in the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes 2024,

The former Indian batter Robin Uthappa has been named captain of Team India for the Hong Kong Sixes 2024. Robin Uthappa will be joined by retired players and seasoned talents like Bharat Chipli, Kedar Jadhav, Manoj Tiwary, Shahbaz Nadeem, Shreevats Goswami, and Stuart Binny at Team India for the upcoming tournament.

This tournament is all set to deliver an exhilarating brand of cricket that fans have sorely missed since the last edition of the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes in 2017. A fast-paced and condensed format of cricket will see 12 nations in action at the Tin Kwong Road Cricket Ground.

Apart from India, the 20th edition of the tournament will see other 11 participating teams including Pakistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, Hong Kong, Nepal, New Zealand, Oman, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the action in the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes 2024.

12 nations battle for glory at the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes

Meanwhile, the twelve teams were divided into four pools of three, with each team competing in a round-robin format in the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes 2024. With a total of 29 matches scheduled over three thrilling days, cricket fans can expect a festival of high-octane action in China.

The tournament will feature a well-organized format, including 12 group-stage matches. This will be followed by six bowl matches and the quarterfinals. On November 3, the semi-finals for both the main draw and the plate competition will be held, with the bowl final, plate final, and cup final all taking place on the same day.

The top two teams in each group will qualify for the quarterfinals, while the winners of the quarterfinals will enter the Cup semifinals. On the other hand, the losing teams of the quarterfinals will compete in the plate semifinals, while each pool’s bottom-placed team will play in the bowl competition.

India vs Pakistan game scheduled November 1

The final day will also host a women’s exhibition match, celebrating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. On the other hand, Robin Uthappa-led Team India and Pakistan are placed in Pool C, with their highly anticipated match scheduled for November 1. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is completing Pool C.

In Pool A, South Africa, New Zealand, and the host nation, Hong Kong, will vie for a place in the knockout rounds. Pool B features Australia, England, and Nepal, while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Oman are in Pool D.

Notably, the tournament has a rich history of featuring cricket legends like Brian Lara, Wasim Akram, Shane Warne, Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, and Anil Kumble. Now, Robin Uthappa will join the Indian legends in this list. England and South Africa are the most successful teams in the tournament, with each having won five titles so far.
