India have booked their place in the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2026 after an emphatic 61-run win over Pakistan at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday, February 15, with a game to spare. Here are the teams the Suryakumar Yadav-led side could face in the next stages of the marquee tournament.

The T20 World Cup 2026 features 20 teams, split into four groups of five. Each side plays four group-stage matches, and the top two teams from every group move on to the Super 8s. West Indies became the first side to qualify for the Super 8s, followed by India on Sunday after their win over Pakistan.

India Set to Face Netherlands in Final Group Match Ahead of Super 8s

India will finish their group stage with a match against the Netherlands in Ahmedabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Wednesday, February 18. The result of that game will not change India’s Super 8 fixtures, as the next round schedule was decided in advance.

There has been some confusion about the Super 8 stage, but the International Cricket Council has already locked in the matchups using pre-assigned seedings. India’s opponents for the next phase were decided before the tournament began.

India have been given the X1 seeding and placed in Group X, which is shaping up to be a tough contest. Along with India, the group will feature South Africa, the West Indies, and one of Zimbabwe or Australia. Australia and South Africa are among the title favourites, while the Windies are dark horses.

Pre-assigned seeding for T20 World Cup 2026:

X1 - India, X2 - Australia, X3 - West Indies, X4 - South Africa

Y1 - England, Y2 - New Zealand, Y3 - Pakistan, Y4 - Sri Lanka

India Set to Open Super 8 Campaign in Ahmedabad Against South Africa

India will begin their Super 8 journey in Ahmedabad for their opening match. They will face the team placed in the X4 seeding, with South Africa the most likely opponent, in a game scheduled for Sunday, February 22.

South Africa were runners-up in 2024 and look close to qualification after winning three matches. The UAE still have a slim chance if they beat both Afghanistan and the Proteas.

India’s second Super 8 fixture will take place on February 26 in Chennai. Australia are the expected opponents, but Zimbabwe remain in the race after a major upset last week. If Zimbabwe manage to finish ahead of Australia, they will take the X2 seeding, while Ireland are also still alive.

The only confirmed opponent for India at this stage is the West Indies, who have already secured Super 8 qualification. India will face the Caribbean nation in their final match of the round at Eden Gardens on March 1. The top two teams from the group will advance to the semi-finals.

India’s Super 8 Schedule:

22 February – India vs South Africa/UAE, Ahmedabad

26 February – India vs Australia/Zimbabwe/Ireland, Chennai

1 March – India vs West Indies, Kolkata
