The Bangladesh NSC Sports Director dissolved the former BCB board headed by ex-President Aminul Islam Bulbul and instead named Tamim Iqbal, the former Bangladeshi skipper, as the new President of an ad hoc committee that will prepare for the next elections.
Several irregularities were reported in the governance of the Aminul Islam-led BCB committee, after which the Bangladesh Sports and Youth Minister announced that a committee had been formed to inquire into the elections of the formerly formed BCB committee.
All such investigations started to surface when the interim Bangladeshi government was dissolved, and the new government wanted to improve the relations between the BCB and the BCCI. The BCB's rash decisions led them to miss their T20 World Cup participation.
Tamim Iqbal was named the new President of the ad-hoc committee
Former Bangladeshi skipper Tamim Iqbal was named president of the ad-hoc committee as the National Sports Council dissolved the formerly elected BCB body led by Aminul Islam. The NSC Sports Director, Aminul Ehsan, informed them of this in their press conference.
He confirmed that several irregularities were marked on the previous BCB election, which was held on October 6th, 2025. The official conveyed that it was reported to the ICC, and the world cricket body was also informed about the formation of an 11-member ad-hoc committee.
This committee comprises 11 members and will have Tamim Iqbal (President), Rashna Imam, Miza Yasir Abbas, Syed Ibrahim Ahmed, Israfil Khosru, Minhajul Abedin Nannu, Athar Ali Khan, Tanvir Chowdhury, Salman Ispahani, Rafiqul Islam Babu, and Fahim Sinha. The committee will be arranging a new election at the BCB within 90 days.
BCCI and BCB to resume talks for India-Bangladesh white-ball series
BCCI and BCB were never on the same page under the former BCB president's tenure. The relation further worsened under the interim government's rule in Bangladesh. This made the India-Bangladesh white-ball series further uncertain.
The Indian team was supposed to tour Bangladesh for a white-ball series comprising both ODIs and T20Is back in 2025; however, it was postponed, citing India's workload. However, citing the recent political scenario, the series was under strain.
Tamim Iqbal's appointment will aid the series, as he has been known as a major supporter of the BCCI and would lead to doing things that would lead to the betterment of cricket in Bangladesh. The talks for the same have been initiated by the Bangladesh government even before Tamim Iqbal's appointment in the new role.
ICC might grant BCB the hosting rights for upcoming tournaments
Though the BCB landed in a major fiasco with the International board after the disagreement surrounding the ICC T20 World Cup venues. The ICC had refused to meet the demands of the BCB, and they were eventually knocked out of the competition and replaced by Scotland.
However, despite the controversial role, the ICC did not impose any ban on the BCB, nor did it disallow it from hosting the future matches. The BCB will be the official hosts of the next ICC U19 World Cup and the Asia Cup as well.
