India Test Squad for West Indies

Openers: KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhimanyu Eswaran

India will open the batting with KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal, with Abhimanyu Easwaran being the third opener.

Team India would be playing their first home Test after the retirement of two former captains, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

KL Rahul will have to take the responsibility of scoring runs at the top of the order along with Yashasvi Jaiswal in the absence of Rohit.

Jaiswal has a decent record in home Test matches, including two double centuries against England in early 2024.

The left-hander would hope to carry his good form at home in the two-match Test series against the West Indies, scheduled to take place in November.

The pair will look to get the team off to a good start and lay a platform for the middle-order batters to capitalize on. Having said that, both KL and Yashasvi would want to make a fresh start after the recent disappointment against New Zealand.

Easwaran, who is expected to slot in as the third opener, might have to wait to get a game in the series.

Middle-order batsmen and all-rounders: Sai Sudharshan, Shubman Gill (c), Rishabh Pant (wk), Dhruv Jurel (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Karun Nair, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Tanush Kotian

The opening pair will be followed by a middle order which has a good blend of youth and experience, with the likes of Sai Sudharshan, who made his Test debut in the first match of the five-match series against England.

Sudharshan will be supported by captain Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant, who are expected to bat at number four and five, respectively.

The squad will also include Dhruv Jurel, who will be he second wicketkeeper, and Karun Nair, who also has a chance of finding a place in the team.

Karun Nair is expected to bat at number six and control the lower middle order along with Jadeja, Axar, and Washington. The trio will play a crucial role with both bat and ball.

Bowlers: Jasprit Bumrah, Harshit Rana, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Kuldeep Yadav

The fast bowling will be handled by youngsters like Harshit Rana, Akash Deep, and Prasidh Krishna, with Jasprit Bumrah being the senior bowler in the lineup.

Mohammed Siraj might miss out given the composition that the Shubman Gill-led side will opt to pick.

India is expected to go in with two fast bowlers and three spinners, with Washington Sunder replacing Ashwin in the XI, while Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel will take up the role of the second and third spinner.

Kuldeep Yadav and new entrant Tanush Kotian might also get a game or two going forward in the home season.
