The India National Cricket Team is getting ready to change their game plan for their big T20 World Cup 2026 match against Pakistan on February 15 in Colombo. They are likely to avoid playing reckless, ultra-aggressive cricket and play smart, calm, and according to the conditions.
India's intense bowling session sends a strong message
On Tuesday (February 10) evening at the Ferozeshah Kotla Stadium, India’s training session gave a clear hint about this shift. As reported by the Times of India, Indian pacers and spinners practised in two separate nets and bowled with full pace and intensity for almost two hours.
Such a hard bowling session is rare in the middle of a long tournament, where players usually save energy. Only Abhishek Sharma missed training, as he is still recovering from a stomach problem. This preparation was not only for their next T20 World Cup 2026 match against Namibia on February 12.

Colombo conditions force rethink
The Indian team knows the conditions in Colombo, but they will have to adjust to new pitches, while Pakistan has been staying and practicing there for the last two weeks. So far in the tournament, most pitches have been slow and have not allowed big scores at this venue.
The pitch at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo is expected to be sluggish, which makes all-out attacking batting risky, as admitted by India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate.
Because of this and how attacking blindly backfired against the USA, the coach revealed that the Men in Blue are planning to slow things down with the bat. He said that the focus will be on timing, technique, and building partnerships for the Pakistan game.
Ryan ten Doeschate reveals India's tactical shift ahead of Pakistan clash
Ryan ten Doeschate stated, “We understand the sentiments and the different politics between the two countries. But I think it’s really important for us just to focus on the cricket side of things.
It’s going to be a challenge going to Colombo, where Pakistan has been stationed for the last two weeks. We are fully focused on bringing our best game to that fixture next week. Judging how the pitches have played in the first five or six days of the tournament, there might be a slight revision in strategy and how we go about that.”

Ryan ten Doeschate demands big improvement from bowlers after the USA game
The bowlers are also under the scanner, as the Indian assistant coach feels the bowling unit has not delivered its best against the USA. So, he expects better control, smarter plans, and disciplined bowling going forward in the tournament. With a strong bowling attack in place, he suggested to the batters that they do not need to take unnecessary risks.
Doeshcate signed off by saying, “Having the world-class bowlers that we have, it does give the batters that freedom to make mistakes in this format. If you’re shooting for 250 all the time, you’re going to make mistakes. But we need to react to situations as well.”
