India will host the inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy in 2027, with Mumbai and Vadodara selected as the two venues for the landmark six-team tournament. The competition will be played from February 14 to 28, with the Cricket Club of India (CCI) in Mumbai and the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium staging the matches.
The tournament will feature Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka. The six teams qualified based on their positions in the ICC Women’s T20I Team Rankings at the July 6 cut-off, with all sides set to play each other once before the top two meet in the final on February 28.

The ICC has confirmed India as the replacement host for the first-ever Women’s Champions Trophy. Mumbai's CCI and the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium will share hosting duties for the 15-day tournament.
The six participating teams will compete in a round-robin league, meaning each side will have five matches in the league stage. The top two teams will qualify for the final in Mumbai on February 28.
The tournament will also add another major women's cricket event to India's recent run of hosting global competitions. India are the reigning Women's Cricket World Cup champions, while Australia currently hold the Women's T20 World Cup title.
Why Sri Lanka was replaced as ICC Women's Champions Trophy host?
Sri Lanka had originally been awarded hosting rights for the inaugural Women's Champions Trophy. However, the event has now been shifted to India while Sri Lanka Cricket continues to carry out reforms requested by the ICC.
The ICC had outlined these reforms at its Annual Conference in July. The governing body subsequently assessed Bangladesh, India and South Africa as potential replacement hosts against its established evaluation criteria. India emerged as the preferred option, with the ICC Board formally approving the change on September 2.
The decision follows earlier ICC action concerning Sri Lanka Cricket. In July, the ICC Board noted progress towards a revised constitution but reiterated the importance of holding elections and said Sri Lanka Cricket would remain unable to be represented at ICC Board meetings for the time being.
Jay Shah reacts to India hosting ICC Champions Trophy 2027
ICC Chairman Jay Shah welcomed the decision and described the inaugural tournament as an important step for the women's game.
"The ICC Women’s Champions Trophy 2027 marks an exciting new chapter for women’s cricket. As the inaugural edition of the tournament, it will bring together the best teams in the world in an intense, high-quality competition, while creating even greater incentive for teams to continue rising through the rankings and competing for a place on the global stage.”
Shah also highlighted the broader opportunity created by the annual calendar of major women's ICC events.
“With a marquee ICC women’s event now taking place every year, we have a significant opportunity to build greater momentum, provide more consistency and create a stronger rhythm for the women’s game, its players and their fans around the world.”
