The Indian team could visit Australia twice during the next Future Tours Programme (FTP) cycle, which runs from 2024 to 2032, with the number of Tests each series increasing from four to five.

Cricket Australia (CA) has recently alerted a number of broadcasters, both domestic and international, of the fact that it has secured two full Test trips by each of India and England over the next FTP, with India’s tours boosted from four to five-match series, according to a story in The Age.

India won Australia’s previous two Test trips, which included four matches in each series,  which went down in history as two of their biggest successes. The current ICC FTP, which runs from 2018 to 2023, concludes with the men’s 50-over ICC World Cup, which will be held in India in October/November of next year.

The Next FTP Is Expected To Be Released Around The End Of This Month

The complete FTP will most likely be announced later this month, around the time of the ICC’s annual meeting in Birmingham on July 25 and 26.

India has always been a tremendous draw for Australian spectators, especially in recent years, with the previous four-match series Down Under providing a significant boost to the financially suffering CA with projected revenue of $300 million Australian dollars.

Seasons without Test-match visits by England or India generally mean a reduction in crowds and broadcast audiences – part of the reason why CA itself works on a multi-year financial model to balance fluctuations in the international schedule,” said the report in the leading Australian daily.

A second-string Indian squad, captained excellently by Ajinkya Rahane, overcame a full-strength Australia side by three wickets at “fortress” Gabba to win the series 2-1 and retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

CA praised the BCCI’s Sourav Ganguly for successfully finishing the tour despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

Australia is due to tour India next year for 4-match Test series.
