India U19 Team Reach ICC U19 World Cup Quarterfinals

Despite the absence of six players, the Indian Colts made their way to the Super League quarterfinal of the ICC U19 World Cup after a thumping win against Ireland U19 on Wednesday.

India U19 won by 174 runs against Ireland U19 at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad to mark their second win in Group B.

After skipper Yash Dhull and vice-captain, SK Rasheed tested positive for COVID-19 along with four other players of the India U19 team, all of them were kept under isolation.

A depleted Indian side led by all-rounder Nishant Sandhu had to take the field against Ireland. But the youngsters dealt with the adversity with tranquillity as they did not let off the field situation tarnish their performance on the pitch.

Openers Angkrish Raghuvanshi (79) and Harnoor Singh gave a solid start to their innings as they put 164 runs in their opening stand.

Himachal Pradesh batter Raj Bawa (42), stand-in skipper Nishant Sandhu (36) and Rajvardhan Hangargekar (39*) added to the team’s tally with vital contributions.

India U19 posted an enormous score of 307 for five in the first innings before their bowlers skittled down the opposition at 133 in 39 overs.

Apart from Dhull and Rasheed, Manav Parakh, Siddharth Yadav, Aaradhya Yadav and Vasu Vats are observing the isolation period in India’s U19 team. India were reduced to just 11 players after six of them were sidelined from the camp.

India U19 team defeated South Africa U19 by 45 runs in their first game of the tournament in Guyana. Skippet Yash Dhull led from the front with his valiant knock of 82 from 100 balls.

The Indian colts will play their final match of Group B against the Uganda U19 team on January 22 at the same venue where they thrashed Ireland.
