Indian vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane has stated that the team’s focus will be on the upcoming England series at home and not on the World Test Championship finale which is 3-4 months away. Rahane had led India to a famous series win in Australia in the absence of senior players and had been praised all around the world for his calmness and composure. He has an unbeaten record in the 5 Tests he has captained while winning 4 of them and has created a lot of talks among the cricket experts to replace Virat Kohli as India’s permanent Test captain.
The inaugural World Test Championship final will be held at the Lord’s cricket ground in June and New Zealand has already qualified for the final. India has to make sure that they don’t lose more than one Test and win at least two Tests in the four-match Test series against England which will take India to the World Test Championship final. Kohli’s men have dominated the home series making it really tough for any opposition to win in India.
New Zealand Deserve To Be In The Final Admits Rahane
Ajinkya Rahane also admitted that Newzeland has played really good cricket in the last 2 years and has dominated the opponents in their home, hence deserves to be in the inaugural World Test Championship Final. He added that the focus right now for the Indian team will be on the England series, and not to think too much about the test championship finals which will take place after the IPL gets over.
“See right now we are just focusing on this series and on this first Test here in Chennai. World Test Championship finals are still three-four months away, New Zealand played really well and they deserve to be playing the finals of the World Test Championship,” said Ajinkya Rahane during a virtual press conference on Wednesday.
Ajinkya Rahane Rates England As A Very Good Team
Ajinkya Rahane mentioned that England is a very good team and India won’t be taking them lightly. He added that India has to be on top of their game to beat the current England team boasting Jofra Archer, Ben Stokes, Joe Root who can win matches on their own. Rahane also told to not think too far ahead and take one game at a time, which will reduce the pressure.
“We are playing against England now, it is all about taking it one game at a time. England is a very good team, we have to play good cricket, we will see what happens after this series,” Ajinkya Rahane added.
The first test between India and England starts tomorrow in Chennai with no spectators allowed in the ground.
